Close distance to the sea means fresh and refreshing breeze in summer, which does not cause unbearable summer swelter, such as in Seville. In winter, the mountains are covered with snow There are great views in this southernmost region of Europe.

Most villages in the region of Andalusia, as well as in the region of Malaga, have no written history until the fifteenth century. However facts such as: sufficient amount of water, the ability to take refuge in caves and pleasant temperatures we can assume that people lived here in prehistoric times. However, until today, there is no archaeological evidence confirming this hypothesis.

The name Competa appeared for the first time in 1487 in writing, when the city hall of Valez called "Corregidor” (being in the hands of Christians) forced residents to adopt the new owners. It means that until that time Campet was just a farming village. Mauritians of Competa, like most in the province of La Axarquia, united in the uprising and established fortified strongholds in the Penon de Frigiliana. It was up to the time when Christians overcome the Arab forces on 12 June 1569. During the battle, there were many victims. A part of Moors fled and plagued Christians from time to time.

There are three main roads leading to Competa from the AP7 motorway, which runs along the Mediterranean from the French border, via Barcelona, Valencia down to Gibraltar and beyond. The most interesting route starts at the exit of the town of Torrox, the A-6204 road. Travellers have got the opportunity to cross the Trayamar, archaeological remains and Pele-Uniate tombs from the seventh century BC.

They are considered to be one of the most important archaeological sites throughout the Mediterranean. It is also easy to get to Competa by the road A-6203 from Algarrobo, passing through the village of Sayalonga.
