Mar Menor in Spain
The most characteristic element of Costa Calida landscape is huge salt lagoon, known as Mar Menor (small sea in Spanish language). Its area reaches 170 km2 and it is the biggest water reservoir in the whole Europe. Mar Menor is separated from the Mediterranean Sea only by a small piece of land known as La Manga (sleeve from Spanish).
