Health and transport in Spain
Health and transport in Spain. It's no secret that Spain is an extremely attractive country when it comes to moving here, buying property and permanent living on the Costa Blanca or Costa del Sol area.
But in addition to the wonderful climate, beautiful beaches, healthy Mediterranean cuisine and friendly people, there are other important factors without Spain would not be Spain.
Namely: excellent state health service, and excellent transport and public transport. Both local and international transport services. Let's take a closer look at these two things in this chapter on our website related to buying property in Spain.
Health services in Spain
Do you know that the Spanish health service spends more money on health care than the United Kingdom? That is to say: proportionately more funds from the state budget are spent on health care than in the UK. Do you know that Spain has more working doctors than in the United Kingdom?
Unfortunately, we have not been able to reach data from the Polish health service to compare our two countries, but propably we would be disappointed even more. The fact is - hospitals, clinics and health centers in Spain make an impressionon newcomers. Anyone who comes in contact with the Spanish health care service praises it and recommends it to others.
This is probably one of the reasons why Spaniards live longer than average Europeans. And Spain is on the the top world's longest life-time statistics. Simply - people live longer here.
As a new resident of Costa Blanca you will have the right to free health care in Spain. Generally considered to be much better than in Poland or even United Kingdom. This is when you sign up for a Spanish health care system.
Retirement pensioners don't have to worry because Polish pensioners coming to Spain will receive the same level of free health care as any Spanish citizen. But to get it you have to register in the Spanish health system by filling out the S1 (E121) form.
If you move to Spain before reaching retirement age and you are not working, you may need to take out health insurance, usually cheaper than your equivalent in Poland, to cover your medical expenses in Spain. Be assured that the standard of free health care you will receive in Spain and on the Costa Blanca will be very high.
On Costa Blanca each town or larger urbanization has its own health center where you can make an appointment to visit a doctor or make apppointment online. Almost all Spanish doctors and staff in the health centers and clinics in the Costa Blanca speak English. In case of an emergency or surgical operation on the Costa Blanca, modern hospitals and specialized clinics are available. To some clinics and hospitals comes foreignes to get their treatment here.
There are also private clinics. Hospitals and health centers are located in Torrevieja, Alicante, Playa Flamenca, Alicante, Benidorm, Denia, Calpe, Cabo Roig, Elche, Orihuela, Pilar de la Horadada, Villajoyosa and Villamartin area.
Pharmacies in Spain
Another advantage of Spanish health care is that pharmacists in pharmacies not only provide and make prescriptions for medicines, which are also cheaper than in Poland, but also help in emergencies. Pharmacists in Spanish pharmacies are highly qualified and normal is in Spain for pharmacists to advise on minor diseases. Where in Poland you would have to go to visit a doctor.
At a pharmacy in Spain they will check your blood pressure for free. You can get medicines including antibiotics based on your own diagnosis and without a prescription.
Pharmacies in the most popular resorts on the Costa Blanca always have employed people who speak English and always you will find a pharmacy open 24 hours a day.
Transport and communication in Spain
Costa Blanca coast and Alicante area. The Costa Blanca and its cities are one of the best connected parts of Spain, where Alicante Airport is one of the busiest airports in mainland Spain.
